Reverend James L. Tillman was born in High Point, N.C. to Rev. George H. Tillman, Sr. and Annie J.
Rev. Tillman is the oldest son of six children (four sisters and one brother). He attended the public schools in High
Rev. Tillman is married to his devoted supportive and loving wife of 34 years, Mrs. Loretta Williams Tillman of Shelby, NC.
Mrs. Tillman has served as Director of Christian Education and President of the Usher Board. She has also been a member of the Steward Board, Stewardess Board, the Soup Kitchen, Food Bank Ministry and attends Sunday School and Bible Study and is very active in the life of the church.
The Tillman’s have one son, Johnny, who resides in Kansas City, Missouri. They are also the proud grandparents of one grandson,
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics with a minor in Computer Programming in 1989 from Capital City Business College, Kansas City, Missouri where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.99.
Pastor Tillman grew up in a strong Christian environment. He was brought under the conviction of the Holy Spirit and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. His initial sermon was preached in April of 1998 and received his license to preach, deacon and elders ordination through the Carolina Annual Conference; the Seventh Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.
He attended the Bishop’s School for Ministers (ITC) in Gastonia, NC and has served as pastor of the following churches: Mt. Calvary CME in Mount Airy, NC; Brooklyn CME, Chesnee, SC; Jones Tabernacle CME in Lawndale, NC and Shouse Temple CME in Winston-Salem, NC and is currently assigned to Bethel CME Church in Long Beach, CA.
